A trip to Indonesia, in the autonomous province of Papua, to discover the customs and traditions of one of the most ancient tribes in Asia and in the world: Moni. This tribe lives in the uplands near the largest of Paniai lakes, which are characterized by a lush and quite unreachable nature. Tribes are divided in groups from 10 to 60 people. Their main activities concern agriculture and farm animals and their houses are made of wood and covered by barks. Ornamentations are very important for this tribe, this is why, both men and women love primping with necklaces, bracelets and painting their faces. Thanks to this 7-days tour, with departure and arrival in Timika, one of the largest cities in Papua with a renowned typical market, you can discover:
Arrival at Mosez Kilangin airport in Timika and transfer to the hotel, where you can rest and have lunch. Thereafter, we'll visit a traditional market in Timika and some shops where it is possible to buy Kamoro and batik, classic and traditional clothes from Papua. Back to the hotel for overnight.
In the morning transfer to the airport and flight to Pogapa (about 50 minutes). Upon arrival, together with the cook and porter, we'll move to the village, the starting point for our trekking. We'll trek up to the mountain and then down the river Kemabu to Bilai Village. During the hike, it is possible to admire stunning views and discover the activities carried out by the surrounding communities. Once arrived at Bilai village, we'll take a break and then explore the traditional village learning something about people's daily life. We continue then to Debasiga Village, near AIR Salt Asili River, overnight at local people house.
After breakfast based on banana pancake served by the community, we'll leave Debasiga for Pogulu Village continuing the trekking. Upon reaching the bottom of Pogulu, we'll climb up to a mountain from which it is possible to enjoy a breath-taking view of Bilai and Lembah Kemadoga. After having a break, it is possible to discover how local people spend their days. Overnight in local people houses (owned by Moni Tribe).
After breakfast, we'll continue the trek down the steep hill and walk down to the Hanging Bridge along the Kemabu River. This trek could appear a little dangerous because narrow and slippery, but the beautiful views will repay the effort when we arrive at the Mugi River. Rest and lunch. Afterwards, we'll continue to Dulipa Village, through a short but challenging path. Upon arrival, we can take a break and then explore the village. Overnight at local people house.
After breakfast, we'll discover a traditional market in Sugapa and the mummy of Mr. Belaumala created by Moni tribe. Lunch at the next village and then return to Sugapa.
After breakfast, we'll head to Hitalipa to discover this village. At the end of the day, we'll move to a guesthouse or a local people house to have dinner and overnight.
Today we'll take the flight to Timika: end of services.
