The suggested itinerary only presents some ideas to inspire you and some hints for further arrangement of tailormade combinations, fit for each family.
Here are some of the features that make this trip unique:
For a family who wishes to experience something unusual, Namibia is always a safe and suitable destination.
Arrival in Windhoek, meeting with Kalahari Namibia and the rental car service with which you'll directly sign the contract. Upon arrival in Namibia you'll be welcomed with a piece of cake, tea or coffee and a briefing to review the trip. All useful information will be provided. Accommodation in a hotel in the city center on a bed and breakfast basis.
Drive north with your car and stop off at the handcraft market in Okahandjia. Arrive at Etosha National Park, where you'll spend three days. Safaris follow the tracks which are most beaten by animals. Game viewing at leisure with your car.
Etosha is one of the most populated parks and one of the easiest to explore. You'll view large herds of every species (antelope, kudu, zebra, wildebeest, gazelle), plenty of elephants, giraffes and often felines can be viewed here as well. Safaris are very easy thanks to the huge quantity of animals.
Your lodge is close to the south-western entrance to the park (several alternatives available). Dinner and breakfast.
You'll cross spectacular landscapes and enter the vast expanses of Damaraland till reaching the foothills of Brandberg massif. Accommodation here is for two night, with dinner and breakfast. The lodge is simple but its position is marvellous.
This area is also full of rock paintings. Sun populations used to teach and describe hunting and survival techniques by depicting them on the rocks. You'll have the chance to see the great painting of the White Lady, declared national heritage. The complex of the White Lady includes many animal and human subjects and is thought to represent a ritual dance, while the main figure, the "Lady", is thought to be actually a shaman.
We suggest a trip to see the elephants in the desert offered by your lodge. The elephant excursions in Damaraland last only half day.
Departure at leisure, even in the late morning, to reach Skeleton Coast and Cape Cross. Visit to the seal colony. You'll then reach Walvis Bay coast and check in to your hotel.
Restaurants are excellent both in Walvis Bay and Swakopmund, especially fish is delicious. The restaurant on the lagoon in Walvis Bays is fun for families.
The following day you'll have free time to explore Swakopmund or go on one of the countless excursion on offer in the area.
The following day is dedicated to crossing Namib Naukluft Park, in the areas where you usually meet ostrich, gazelle and oryx families grazing free among canyons, oases and endemic plants.
Enroute, enjoy a snack in Solitaire, once a meeting point for local farmers. The road is marvelllous, colors are strong and contrasting, making this route really magical.
You'll be accommodated in a lodge which is located around 18 km from the entrance of Sossusvlei Park. The accommodation and the position are excellent, allowing you to reach the park and get back without covering too much distance, which could be tiring for kids. Dinner and breakfast.
The following day will be spent exploring Sossusvlei and Seriem Canyon with your own car. The area offers different kinds of accommodations, from farms to lodges close to the park.
Leave Sossusvlei and get back on the main road to Windhoek. Arrive at the airport and leave your car.
