Kalahari Haute Couture Division
Kalahari Haute Couture Division was born out of the meeting between Marco Ferrero and Susan Frittelli, out of their love for Africa and a groundbreaking idea of tourism. Marco arrived in North Africa in 1975 for the first time, looking for new destinations for a famous tour operator. An irresistible desire to explore these lands moved him to undertake continuous journeys.
The deep knowledge of the local population that he acquired, of their habits and traditions, and the long time spent in the villages with the local tribes, allowed him to establish a special relationship with the locals, based on trust and strong respect. The village chiefs and local kings started to point the way for new destinations and itineraries, drawing strange maps on the sand with their beautiful carved sticks.
Marco convinced Susan, who was in love with Ethiopia, to go to Namibia with the promise to develop a new kind of tourism. No catalog or ready-made trip, at the center is each individual client and his or her own personal "Africa dream", and "his/her trip" would be created around this. So Kalahari was started.
Passing through Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Rhodesia and South Africa, in 1989 Kalahari was established in Windhoek where it still has its main base. From then on, every day, with the same dedication, Kalahari has been working hard to arrange unique and unrepeatable trips. The deep knowledge of the land and the long-time African experience, together with a solid European identity, were the indispensable premises for the rare and necessary balance required to create "tailormade" trips in places that are still so authentic.
