Family winter holidays in Lapland (Dec-Jan)

Transfer from Ivalo airport and check in to your hotel. After a three-course dinner, you'll take a 2 hour aurora safari.

In the evening, enjoy a sauna in your hotel. 

After breakfast, you and your kids will take part in the reindeer herder's day (3-3.5 h).  This excursion opens up the reindeer herding as a way of living. The tour starts by a short car transfer to the farm and continues with a snowmobile sledge drive to the reindeer herd.

Your host is the reindeer herder himself, who will take you with him in his daily activities. You will get a chance to participate in the feeding and observe these peaceful animals by a cup of coffee around an open fire. This is a tranquil time for reindeer and herders together; genuine and real life! (Duration 3-3,5 hrs). 

Time for lunch.

In the afternoon, a masterclass in snow fun is scheduled. The lesson gives you an introduction to snow fun: cross country skiing, snowshoeing, kick sledging and toboggan sliding. You will get warm clothing if necessary and informaton about the ski and snowshoeing tracks in the neighbohood. You may use any of the equipment free during the rest of your stay.  

End your day with a sauna and a three-course dinner. 

After breakfast you will have time at leisure for snow fun. Time for lunch.

In the afternoon, visit to Sámi museum Siida, a window to the nature in the northernmost Lapland as well as the Sámi culture. In Siida you will hear about the eight seasons, northern lights and survival strategies of the Sámi people in the extreme conditions of the north. At 12am and 3pm a multimedia presentation about the northern lights is shown to the visitors.

Transfer to Guesthouse Husky, hosting 140 Alaskan huskies. The Alaskan huskies are friendly, social and active dogs, which are very eager to run and pull the sledge. They like working! You can go and pet the huskies when you like. Huskies really like people. 

You'll be accommodated in a small log hotel opened in 2011. There are four double rooms and two family rooms with four beds. Downstairs you'll find a sauna, which you can use in turns with the other guests.  The kitchen serves Finnish-Lappish homefood in the first floor dining room. End the day with a 3-dinner course. 

After breakfast, you'll take a 4-hour husky safari (including soup lunch). On this safari 2 people are sharing one husky team. Guide often takes the children from 8-11 yrs in his/her sledge and the smaller ones are traveling sitting in the sledge together with their parent. You'll also take part in the dog feeding. 

You can also choose to take a snowmobile safari, available in two 2 versions. The group can either choose a late evening safari and drive out in the winter nature after the Northern Lights, or they can choose a winter fishing safari a little bit earlier on lake Menesjärvi or lake Kuivajärvi and learn the tricks of winter fishing. There will be 2 people sharing one snow mobile.

Sauna and 3-course dinner.

Today your tour ends. Breakfast to go with you (if you have the early flight) and airport transfer. If you wish to spend a longer holiday in Lapland, ask for extra days.
