Here are the highlights of the trip:
Arrive at Mexico City International Airport and transfer to the hotel. Overnight.
Tour of the city and of Teotihuacan archaeological site. Later visit Zocalo (the main square with the Cathedral and National Palace), Templo Mayor, Basilica of Our Lady of Guadeloupe, patroness of Mexico and main pilgrimage site of Latin America. At the end visit Teotihuacan with the imposing pyramids of the Sun and Moon. Lunch in a local restaurant. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon.
Transfer to the airport and morning flight to Villahermosa, capital city of the state of Tabasco. Upon arrival transfer to Palenque and tour of the archaeological area. Overnight in hotel.
Early morning departure to Corozal village, situated on the Mexican border, travelling for 150 km on paved road and 18 km on dirt road, for 2 hours and a half. At the end of this fascinating journey you'll board motor-launches and sail along Usumacinta river for around an hour till reaching the ancient Mayan city situated on the edge of the forest: Yaxchilan.
At the end of the area's tour, return by motor-launch to Corozal where you'll have lunch in a restaurant situated on the banks of Usumacinta river. After lunch and custom procedures with the Mexican authorities, the Mexican guide will leave travellers to the Guatemalan guide. The journey continues by motor-launch for around 30 minutes till reaching Betel village, situated in the Guatemalan territory.
Past the custom checkpoint, it's on to Flores by bus. During these 3 hour and a half drive you will admire the marvellous landscapes of the Guatemalan forest. Arrival and overnight in a hotel.
Sightseeing in Tikal archaeological area, considered as the most spectacular Mayan site in Central America. The incredible pyramids and stones show how this city was the most important in the Mayan world in the 8th century. Here you can discover the fascination of the Mayan mystery while strolling among 70 m high pyramids, some already built 200 years before Christ.
The view of Peten jungle is extraordinary and you can enjoy it on top of the pyramid known as IV Temple. At the end of the tour, lunch and transfer to the airport for the flight to Guatemala City. Upon arrival transfer and check-in to the hotel.
Drive to Chichicastenango, visit Santo Tomas church and the indigenous market. In Chichicastenango market Mayan and Spanish traditions merge; every Thursday and Sunday (market days), the little village becomes a sort of handicraft bazaar where you can admire and buy various types of textiles, ceramics and carved wood objects.
Representatives of nearby villages assigned to the cults of various saints gather in Santo Tomas church, situated in the main square: it is indeed possible to see the natives offering incense and praying to their gods and saints in an evocative mix of prehispanic and Christian rituals. Lunch.
Departure to Lake Atitlan, one of the most beautiful in the world, dominated by three volcanoes and inhabited on the shores by several communities belonging to various ethnic groups. Arrive in Panajachel, the main settlement on the shores of the lake, and check-in to the hotel.
In the morning cruise the lake on a motor-launch, stopping in San Antonio Palopò for a visit. Departure to Antigua. Arrival and check-in to the hotel.
Tour of the city, a colonial monument of the Americas and capital city of Guatemala until 1773; the city offers jewels of Spanish architecture such as the Palace of General Captains and the City Hall. Also visit Las Armas square and the Government Palace, the ruins of various convents and churches such as that of Merced and Capuchin.
Return to Guatemala City, arrival and check-in to the hotel.
Transfer to the airport for your onward destination.
