Villahermosa

Villahermosa is the capital city of the mexican state of Tabasco. The political power of the city resides here, in addition Villahermosa is an important business centre for the mexican oil industry.

Nowadays, Villahermosa is a modern city rich in natural resources and boasting a prosperous farming.

The city is located in the southeast part of Mexico, between the rivers  Grijalva and Carrizal. Villahermosa boasts many lagoons, the most popular and important is La Laguna de las Illusiones. It was founded on the bank of the Grijalva river in 1519 by  Hernán Cortés.

In the past, the city was frequently attacked by the pirates, this is why the city has changed many names and sometimes some settlements have moved in the centre of the region.

Worth visiting are La Venta Museum-Park, where it is possible to admire the bigger collection of Olmec artifacts. All these evidences come from the archaeological site "La Venta", near the city.
