Furthermore, do not miss the chance to discover the less renowned, but at the same time, the most authentic places of Salento. During your relaxing stay enjoy a stunning itinerary in the countryside, trek paths marked by memories in order to discover the local history and culture, which show Basilian crypts, ancient little churches, manor farms, woods and several legends. The tasty local cuisine will be a trusty friend during your holiday: nothing will disappoint you!
Upon arrival on Friday, you'll be astonished due to the beauty of Masseria Pizzofalcone, which was a real ancient hamlet. Today, you can enjoy the comforts of its elegant rooms, the traditional tastes proposed by its restaurant and relax at the pool, in its calm courtyards or inside the lush garden. Everything in this magical place inspires peace and tranquillity.
Those who love open air activities can trek through the paths of the Nature Park and the Serra di Coelimanna Visitors centre. Along the ancient, wide, and grassy ways, it is possible to admire ancient remains, such as the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin Coelimanna, probably a shrine for primitive men. Lunch in a typical manor farm, Le Stanzie, at the foot of Serra S. Eleuterio, where genuine and traditional dishes are served every day.
This manor farm is one of the oldest rural complexes on Salento territory, moreover, nearby there is an ancient "Roman stazio", a stop station along the oil road that connected Otranto with Gallipoli.
In the afternoon visit to the near city of Casarano to discover the Church of St. Mary of the Cross or of Carasano, dating back to the Medieval epoch and decorated with beautiful geometrical mosaics and mosaics representing fruits, fishes and birds. Church of Madonna della campana is another place worth visiting.
We suggest you visit the Baroque city of Lecce and its most representative monuments, such as Castle of Charles V, Church of the Holy Cross, St. Orontius Square, Roman Amphitheatre, the Cathedral and the handicraft shops, where it is possible to buy the famous papier-mâché crafts.
