Mauritius - Useful information for your trip

Mauritius is an island located in the Indian Ocean, near the Tropic of Capricorn, between Africa and India. It is part of Mascarenes togheter with Reunion, a French island, and Rodrigues Islands. Mauritius is 800 km from Madagascar, and is characterized by a wide upland in the central part with some mountains which reach an altitude of 800 m.

The island has a tropical climate, pleasant during the whole year, with average temperatures between 20° and 35° C. In particular, during the winter season, from May to November, the weather is dry, while during the summer it is warmer and humid. The typhoon season is between November and April.

The population is formed by different ethnic groups, the biggest is the Creole, which has influenced the official language. Anyway, the most spoken idioms are English and French. The Italian language is common in tourist resorts.

Mauritius is renowned for its natural beauty, it is a real paradisiacal garden rich in tropical palms, ebony forests, exotic fruit trees and bouganvilleas framed by the turquoise waters of the ocean and surrounded by an amazing coral reef and white sandy beach.

For those who love nature, a holiday in Mauritius represents the perfect chance to immerse in the colours and the perfumes of an extraordinary vegetation: from giant water lilies to Trochetia, a rare flower which has become the national symbol, from giant turtles to geckos and colourful birds. Mauritius is also characterized by its wonderful crystal-clear sea and its long white sandy beaches, colourful fish and awesome corals. A charm that will leave you dumbstruck.

Mauritius is a place that can give visitors unique emotions, thanks to the hospitality and warmth of its inhabitans and the contrast between past and present in its art and culture, as well as many bars and restaurants for enjoying your free time.  It also boasts a colonial past which is perfectly mixed with the modern cosmopolitan atmosphere of the island.
