This itinerary allows you to discover awesome natural environments by motor boats and canoes, enjoy pleasant hikes, an exciting excursion on board a float plane till reach Glacier Lake, but also the incomparable Aurora Borealis, one of the most suggestive natural phenomena.
Upon arrival at Fort Simpson, you will take your Simpson Air flight and reach the Nahanni National Park Reserve, only accessible by plane, and your accommodation. Your amazing lodge and breath-taking landscapes are waiting for you.
Today you can relax and enjoy the pristine water of Little Doctor Lake located in front of your accommodation. It is possible to explore and discover the area using motor or gas boats, canoes with paddles or enjoy pleasant hikes. In addition, you can also throw in a line and fish for your evening meal.
Flying into the amazing wilderness over Canada's deepest canyons that characterize the Nahanni National Park Reserve is the experience of a lifetime. Reaching the Glacier Lake, you will completely understand why this place has been declared UNESCO World Heritage Site.
You will fly on a floatplane. The Cessna 206 (4 passengers or 5 with small children) or the de Havilland Beaver will make you admire the First, Second and Third Canyons. En route your pilot will tell you the legends linked with these unmissable spots, among which Deadman Valley, Headless Range, Funeral Range, Death Lake, and Crash Lake. Keep an eye out for dall sheep and mountain caribou racing over the cliffs and slopes below. You will land on the South Nahanni River at the top of Virginia Falls and continue further into the mountains. After the wonderful Virginia Falls, you will encounter the imposing Cirque of the Unclimbables. Short break to scour the spectacular Lotus Flower Tower and Mt. Harrison Smith. Afterwards, the tour continues to reach Rabbit Kettle Lake where you will see the Tufa Mounds. And then, you will arrive again at Little Doctor Lake, for your overnight at the Nahanni Mountain Lodge.
The tour will last 6 - 8 hours.

This night you will have the chance to end your adventure in the Dehcho Region of the Northwest Territories enjoying one of the most suggestive experience the nature has to offer: Aurora Borealis. Viewing the Aurora Borealis is an uncomparable event offered by nature. During this phenomenon you can admire luminous colours dance across a dark sky in an amazing scenario that leaves you breathless. Northern latitudes and remote and untouched areas are the best places to enjoy it as they are not affected by "light pollution". Winter, with the long periods of darkness and clear nights, provides many chances for the display.
Enjoy your last day at Nahanni Mountain Lodge till your flight back to Simpson Air float base, at the shore of the Mackenzie River in Fort Simpson.
