Catania
Catania is an italian city located in Sicily, at the foot of Mount Etna.
Catania was founded in the 8th century BC and can be proud of its important and long history; in fact, the city was one of the most relevant and successful cultural, artistic and political centres of Italy. Now, its baroque city centre is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In the city you should visit all the beautiful churches, but especially the Cathedral, dedicated to Saint Agatha, the cathedral has been destroyed and rebuilt many times due to the earthquakes and eruptions of the Mount Etna. Other worth seeing spots are: the greek and roman ruins, with the Theatre and the Odeon; the food and fish markets a cheerful place to visit, Villa Bellini a wonderful urban park and the Benedictine monastery, where now it is located the Faculty od Literature of the University of Catania.
Beyond visiting the city, Catania also offers several beautiful sandy beaches with crystal clear sea where relaxing.
