Argentina - Useful information for your trip

Argentina is a country located in South America, it extends from the Andes to the waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

Argentina is mainly mountainous in the Western part, where are situated the highest peaks of the continent, as Mount Aconcagua, and levelled in the East part, where the alluvial plain of Pampas represents an important economical resource for the agriculture. It also boasts several rivers and lakes and a wide coastal area.

Because of its extension, the weather is extremely heterogeneous in Argentina. The summers are generally warm and humid and the winters mild and dry in the North, while the Southern regions can have some sub polar conditions, they are characterized by cool summers and cold winters with abundant snowfalls.

The colonization process of the 16th century and a great immigration started around 1870 and finished just before the First World War had as consequence that the most part of the population come from Europe, and it is characterized by Spanish, which influenced the local languages, and Italian.

The economy is based on the primary sector, thanks to a high variety of natural richness, as oil and natural gas, and to a well-developed agricultural system. Moreover, tourism also represents an relevant economical source for local economy. On one hand, visitors are attracted by the natural beauties and the amazing landscapes, as Patagonia, Iguazú Falls and El Palmar National Park; on the other hand they are fascinated by its metropolis, as the capital city Buenos Aires, an important cultural hub.

Argentina boasts twenty-two national parks, formed to protect this environmental, that hosts unique species in the world, as cayman, puma,  Patagonian cavy, but also forests, rain forests and flowered cactus. Under the architectonic point of view, this country owns several and wonderful examples dated back to the colonial architecture, that was developed around the 17th century.
