During this tour you will be spleeping in campsites and tents; here are some the highlights:
Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, you will be welcomed by our transfer driver and taken to your hotel in Moshi. The rest of the day will be at leisure and you can either relax at the hotel or explore the small town of Moshi (taxi might be required). In the evening you will attend a briefing in preparation of the upcoming trek. Dinner and overnight at hotel, dinner included.
After breakfast you will be picked up at your hotel and taken to the entrance gate of Kilimanjaro National Park, about an hour’s drive away. While your guide is dealing with the registration forms, you can watch the mountain team prepares for the climb and then your Kilimanjaro adventure will begin.
After 5 to 6 hours, you will reach today’s destination – the Machame Camp, situated just above the tree line at 3,010 m. Here, at the base of Mt Kilimanjaro, you will have your first dinner followed by an overnight stay in tents. All meals included.
After an early start, the path steepens and the landscape changes into moor and heathland allowing you to see the impressive mountain range. Today’s stage is shorter than the previous day and you will arrive at the New Shira Camp by mid-afternoon. The camp offers a breath-taking view of the mountain and at sunset the evening sun lights the rock face and glacier of Kibo. All meals included.
Today you will climb about 700 m but you will be camping at an elevation only slightly higher than the previous night. This will allow your body to acclimatise as a height of over 4,500 m will be reached over the next two days.
The trek begins with a long ascent above the Shira Plateau in the direction of the Lava Tower (4,640 m). The vegetation becomes sparser as the landscape changes to an afro-alpine desert. The route passes through the sweeping Barranco Valley. After 6 to 7 hours, you will arrive at the most beautiful camp on the mountain – the Barranco Camp. All meals included.
Today you will start your trek with the climb of the “Barranco Wall”. Your guides will assist you wherever necessary. Following the ridge as it traverses up and down, you can enjoy the splendid views of the south glacier of Kibo.
In the Karanga Valley you will have lunch, followed by a 2 to 3 hours climb to Barafu Camp (4,640 m). Once at the camp, you can relax, have dinner and call it an early night. All meals included.
After a hot tea and a light snack, the climb begins at around midnight. By torchlight, you will climb the screes of Kibo. After 5 to 7 hours of ascending in the dark you will arrive at Stella Point, the crater rim of Mt Kilimanjaro. Another 1 to 2 hours climb along the crater ridge will lead you to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). Here you will see Mt Kilimanjaro in all its glory, enjoying the 360° view over the landscape below as the sun rises.
You are now standing on the “Roof of Africa”. The easy descent runs almost along the same route and shortly before midday you should arrive at Barafu Camp, where the porters and the cook will be waiting for you. After a warm meal and a well-deserved break of approximately 1 to 2 hours, you will be on your way down to Mweka Camp (3,080 m) where supper and a well-earned rest await you. All meals included.
The final stretch of your amazing adventure begins after breakfast with a traditional farewell ceremony from the mountain crew. Then a gentle 2 to 3 hours' descent through the rainforest continues to Mweka Gate, where your driver will be waiting for you. He will take you back to your hotel in Moshi. The rest of the day is free. Breakfast and dinner included.
After breakfast, you will picked up in the morning and after a short briefing in Arusha you will head off to Tarangire National Park. The park with its savannah, baobab trees, seasonal swamps and lagoons is home to huge elephant herds. Animals gather at the life-giving Tarangire River and you should see giraffes, bushbucks and hartebeests to the weird-looking gerenuk and fringe-eared oryx.
The park is also home to buffaloes, zebras and wildebeests which are always closely followed by a range of predators such as lions. Leopards are seen now and then but cheetahs are rarely spotted. From the open roof of the safari vehicle you will be able to absorb the landscape and watch the animals. In the late afternoon you will leave the park and head to a near campsite, where you will spend the night in a tent. All meals included.
After breakfast you will travel from the Tarangire Area to Makuyuni where you will visit a traditional Masai village. You will then continue your journey to Mto wa Mbu where you will enjoy traditional African food, prepared by a local woman. You will then continue your journey to the Lake Manyara National Park which is known for its over 400 bird species, primate-filled forests and grassy plains.
A large area of the park is covered by the alkaline Lake Manyara, the seasonal breeding grounds for large colonies of flamingos and many more waterfowls. The park is also home to giraffes, hippos, wildebeests, impalas and groups of noisy monkeys and baboons. After an extensive game drive you will leave the park and travel to Mto Wa Mbu, where you will spend the night on a campsite. All meals included.
After breakfast, you will travel through the cooler highlands towards the Serengeti and at midday you will reach the plains of the Serengeti National Park. This park is the largest in Tanzania and has a diversity of habitats and landscapes such as short grass plains, savannah, thick bush, swamps and lakes. Bizarre rock formations called kopjes dot the grassy landscape where predators are often seen.
Depending on the season you will witness the migration of thousands of animals for which this park is famous for. You will spend the night on a campsite in the central Serengeti. All meals included.
The entire day is dedicated to game viewing in the Serengeti National Park. You will either go on a full day game drive or join early morning and afternoon drives in the Seronera area. You will spend the night at a campsite in the Seronera area. All meals included.
The morning is set aside for another game drive in the Serengeti and you might spot some creatures that you haven’t seen yet. Animals tend to be more active in the morning before the temperatures soar around midday.
After lunch, you will leave the plains of the Serengeti and travel to the highlands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You will camp at a campsite directly on the Ngorongoro Crater’s edge with a view over the collapsed volcano. It is a perfect spot to enjoy a sundowner at sunset. All meals included.
After an early breakfast at daybreak, you will drive down into the crater. The Ngorongoro Crater is the largest unbroken caldera in the world and fascinates with unbelievable wildlife diversity. Quite often, you can observe the “Big Five” (lions, elephants, buffalos, rhinoceros and leopards) within a couple of hours. After an extensive wildlife tour and a picnic for lunch, you will leave the caldera in the afternoon and drive to Lake Eyasi, where you will spend the night at a campsite. All meals included.
After breakfast, a true African experience awaits you. You will visit the Hadzabe, an ethnic minority and one of Tanzania’s last hunter-gatherer tribes. They have managed to maintain their traditional lifestyle until this day in this dry and mostly barren area.
Thereafter you will pay a visit to the pastoral nomads and herdsmen, known as the Datoga tribe. The experience is completed with a stop at the blacksmiths where you will witness craftsmen in rather rudimentary working conditions. After this interactive cultural experience you will continue to Arusha, where you will stay the night in a lodge. All meals included.
After breakfast you will be taken to Kilimanjaro Airport from where you can continue your journey. Breakfast included.
