You'll tackle climbs that are accessible to everybody, you'll get lost in the diverse nature of the Amazon forest, without forgetting to visit some important cultural sites. Here are the highlights of the itinerary:
Arrival in Lima, transfer to the hotel from the airport by private vehicle, overnight and rest from the jet lag in order to recover energies and tackle the upcoming trek.
Breakfast and free morning, in the afternoon city tour of downtown Lima, visiting the main square, the Government palace, the Cathedral and Larcomar. In the evening travel by tourist bus to Huaraz (8 hrs, 400 km).
Arrival in the early morning in Huaraz, check in to the hotel and breakfast. Free day to rest and visit the city. Your staff will make arrangements for the upcoming days.
Huaraz is known as "World Natural Paradise". There is no other chief town in the world boasting such a spectacular view. Looking east you'll see all of the Cordillera Blanca mountain range, with Huascaráncon (6768 m) at the bottom, while looking west you'll admire the Cordillera Negra.
Today you'll start the roundtrip hike around Huascaràn, the highest glacier in Peru and the second highest in America. After breakfast, depart by private vehicle on a paved road towards the highest Andean pass at about 5000 m, in the central part of Cordillera Blanca, travelling beside Huascaràn, with a panoramic view of marvellous lagoons and huge snow-capped peaks: Chopicalqui, Contrahierbas, Yanaraju, Ulta, Hualcan, Copa, Perlilla.
With just a 3-hour drive you'll cross Cordillera Blanca, from Callejòn De Huaylas to Callejòn De Conchucos, the most charming area and the least beaten by tourists in this part of the Cordillera Blanca.
You'll leave the vehicle in the last village of the area and you'll start an easy hike to Huanchang base camp. Here you'll set the camp near the junction of two rivers that are considered to be the biggest and most remote tributaries of the Amazon river.
After breakfast you'll start the trek across a sub-tropical valley up to the snow line below mountains full of glaciers, lakes, rivers and waterfalls. You'll slowly climb for 3-4 hours till reaching the shores of a spectacular lagoon, with glaciers that have never been climbed as a backdrop.
In the afternoon return to the base camp where a hot meal and well deserved rest in silence and nature awaits you.
Breakfast in the tent then depart for an off-road trek to reach great Libron lake, sorrounded by beautiful glaciers and rocks where the condors build their nests and by flowers that are typical of these heights. In this area classic tourism and mountaineering are absent. But those who dare to come up here experience a real adventure, among numerous villages and spectacular passes, the colbalt blue of the sky, the emerald green of lagoons, the golden yellow of the fields and the crystal-clear white of Cordillera Blanca.
In the afternoon return to base camp and arrival in Chacas, one of the quaintest and most authentic villages of Peru. Overnight in hotel.
Chacas is a very picturesque place, perfect for your first break in the Great New Inca- Andean Trail. The day is dedicated to rest and discovery of local people and culture.
In the morning hike or drive along the Great New Inca Trail, an easy itinerary, accessible to everybody, linking some of the most typical villages in the Andes reaching as far as the Amazon forest. You'll visit a school and some local handicraft factories. The trail traverses valleys, creeks, lush vegetations, unspolt landscapes where nature is still pristine and the view is surprisingly panoramic.
In the afternoon arrival and check in to a mountain lodge situated in front of the peaks of Cordillera Blanca and Inca and pre- Inca ruins.
In the afternoon arrive in Yanama (3500 m). Accommodation in a local family's house. Yanama is a quaint cosy village, considered as one of the most panoramic places in the world, being situated in front of the peaks of Cordillera Blanca and Inca and pre-Inca ruins.
Today you'll complete the great roundtrip tour around Huascaràn. After a one hour drive you'll cross Porta Chuelo Pass (4800 m), enjoying spectacular views in front of Cordillera Blanca. You are right in front of all the peaks of the Cordillera, where you can admire spectacular light and color effects: the intense turquoise of Llanganunco Lagoon is dazzling.
You'll enter the area of Callejon de Huaylas, Yungay, Carhuaz, Jangas, Taricà. In the afternoon arrive in Huaraz; check in to the hotel.
Today is dedicated to the preparations of the equipment for the upcoming climb.
In the morning drive to the base camp by mini van, then hike for two hours to Campo Morena, at the foothills of one of the most beautiful glaciers of Cordillera Blanca. You'll set the camp and enjoy a dinner with the glaciers colored red by the sunset. Overnight in tent.
After an early start and a hot breakfast you'll set off to reach the glacier in less than an hour. Here on you'll tackle an easy climb with your special climbing equipment, enjoying stunning sceneries: Cordillera Negra on one side and Cordillera Blanca on the other, with the city of Huaraz lying below.
After a 4-hour climb you'll reach Valluna Raju peak. The view dominates Cordillera Blanca, with its numerous peaks of over 6000 meters. Return to Huaraz.
The morning is dedicated to a last visit to Huaraz traditional market and to saying goodbye to your Peruvian friends with a very peculiar lunch which has been passed on for centuries since the age of the Incas.
Early morning breakfast and transfer by private vehicle to Llama village; once the donkeys have been loaded, you'll set off to conquer an unusual pass and then reach beautiful Jahuacocha lagoons (4100 m). Overnight in tent.
After breakfast trek on and reach Sambunya pass (4750 m). Here you'll find a surprising view, close to many glaciers: Ninashanca, Jirishanca, Yerupaja, Siula, Carnicero and many more.
Then hike down to Rondoy. Overnight in tent.
Breakfast and hike across Cacanan Punta pass (4700 m). Then descend for another two hours to Mitucocha camp, where you'll set the tents.
Once tents have been taken down and donkeys loaded, you'll set off for more trekking; after approximately three hours, you'll reach Carhuac pass at 4600 m. You'll enjoy a spectacular view of Ninashanca and Jirishanca. Here on you'll descend into Caruacocha lagoon (4138 m), with a splendid view of huge Huayhuash, Yerupaja, Siulà, Jirishanca. Overnight in tents on the shores of the lagoon.
After breakfast you'll depart with the donkeys and guides: it's all downhill from here. After a two-hour hike arrive in Queropalca village and then drive by tourist vehicle to Huánuco, also known as the "city of endless spring", due to its extremely mild and pleasantly windy climate (1900 m, around 75,000 inhabitants). Overnight in a hotel.
Morning transfer to Tingomaria, check-in to the hotel. Excursion in the Amazon forest.
In the morning (or in the night) travel by tourist bus for approximately 500 km, along a road reaching 4818 height at its highest point: Abra Anticona, also called "Ticlio" (famous for the highest railway in the world). After a 10-hour drive arrive in Lima, overnight in hotel.
Morning dedicated to the last sightseeings: Lima's main square, churches, handicraft market for shopping. Lima's historical center was declared Unesco World Heritage Site in 1991. Transfer to the airport and end of service.
