Mayotte is an archipelago located in the Indian Ocean north of Mozambique, it is part of the French overseas departments. It is formed by two main islands, Grande Terre and Petit Terre, which together with other islets are included in the Union of Comoros.
Mayotte boasts a tropical weather, with a warm, humid and rainy season, from December to April, and a fresher, drier and more sunny one, from June to October. Anyway, during the rainy season, sun is never missing, since storms are very short. Its territory is mainly characterized by hills, Mount Benara, 660 high, represents the higher peak. These islands are surrounded by a stunning coral reef, home to several exotic and tropical gaudy fish species. Those who love snorkelling will be enchanted by green turtles and sea turtles, as well as by lovely dolphins. Mayotte's ecosystem includes coconut palms and breadfruit trees, but also some botanical jewels, such as ylang ylang, a very perfumed flower.
During a trip to Mayotte, the wonderful beaches of Tanarak, Jimaweni and M'Tsamboro are unmissable spots. From there, you can admire charming and burning sunsets as well as rare natural beauties. Moreover, the archipelago also provides interesting villages, such as Dzaoudzi e Mamoudzou. The first one is located on Fongouzou and hosts lively streets, such as "boulevard des Crabes", crowded with people during the entire day, because here it is possible to find many bars and restaurants, and rue du Commerce, where it is possible to go shopping and buy precious clothes and jewels. Furthermore, in this town it is also possible to admire colonial buildings, for example in Place de France, where the Prefecture Palace designed by Gustave Eiffel is located. On the other hand, Mamoudzou, the largest city on the islands, has a wonderful and picturesque handicraft district.
Thus, Mayotte is the perfect destination for those who want to relax under palms on sandy beaches, but also for those who love art and culture and meeting other populations.
