Zanzibar - Useful information for your trip

Zanzibar is an African archipelago located in the Indian Ocean. It is composed by two main islands: Unguja and Pemba and several other smaller islands. The proximity to the equatorial zone guarantees constant average temperature, around 25°C, during the whole year.
The animal species present on the island are many and heterogeneus and include the endemic Zanzibar leopard and the Zanzibar servaline genet.

The archipelago represents one of the most important places for the Kiswahili culture, which owns a particular language, letterature and traditions and made the capital city of Zanzibar, Stone Town, a masterwork rich in historical and architectural heritage. This is why Unesco declared it a World Heritage Site.

In the past, Zanzibar was the starting point for many trade routes, among which the one of the spice trade between Africa and Asia. Nowadays one of the main economical sources is the production of spices, such as cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and black pepper.

Moreover, over the last years also tourism has highly increased. Visitors are attracted thanks to the natural beauties of the landscapes as well as the cultural heritage of the island.
