Here are the highlights of this tour and dream vacation:
Arrive in Los Angeles. Transfer to the hotel. Dinner at leisure and overnight.
In the morning, visit some locations, especially Santa Monica and Beverly Hills. Continue on to Hollywood, where you can stroll through Hollywood Boulevard, a street which is home to legendary Grauman's Chinese Theatre with the footprints of the stars imprinted in the concrete. Afterwards visit the city center: the business district and the Mexican neighborhood. Free lunch. Free afternoon.
Optional: Hollywood Universal Studios, the most important film studios in the world. Leave on a tour of the studios on a small tram to see the places where films and TV series such as "War of the Worlds", "Jurassic Park " or the TV series "Desparate Housewives" were shot. Later you will attend a presentation that recalls the great moments of Hollywood movie industry, or discover the secrets of special effects. Free time to discover the different attractions. Dinner. Return to the hotel and overnight.
Departure to Palm Springs. Continue to Joshua Tree National Park which includes Colorado desert in the eastern part of the park and features natural gardens of bushes and cactus; Little San Bernardino Mountains that define the south-western border of the park, and Mojave Desert, which, being higher, humid and slightly cooler, is the ideal habitat of the Joshua Tree, from which the park takes its name. At least 240 species of birds are present in the park and here is a good place to observe wildlife. Free lunch. Drive to Laughlin. Dinner and overnight.
Starting in the direction of the Grand Canyon, an amazing geological phenomenon. Free lunch. Then walk on the south ridge overlooking one of the most beautiful wonders of the world. The Grand Canyon, located 2125 meters above sea level, is the result of millions of years of erosion caused by wind and by water. Surrounded by a magnificent forest, the canyon seems to be protected by a screen of vegetation. Colorado River flows over 1,500 meters below. This tour will be one of the strong points of your trip. Optionally you can fly over the canyon by helicopter. Dinner and overnight in the Grand Canyon.
Depart for Monument Valley, imposing bloody red rocky hills that surround wild clearings and a sand desert. Visit this extraordinary site, where numerous films with cow-boys have been shot. This desert plain stretches for 40 km, 25 of which are home to gigantic monoliths. Free lunch. Optional off-road excursion with the Navajo Indians and lunch with Navajo specialties. In the afternoon, stop at Dead Horse Point, a promontory overlooking the Colorado River, which can be reached by a footpath. The view of Canyonlands and Colorado is spectacular. Dinner and overnight in Moab, at Aarchway Inn 3 * or Inn at the Canyons Monticello 3 *.
In the morning visit Arches National Park in Utah, an arid landscape where you can find over 2,000 natural arches of various shapes and sizes formed by the erosion of red sandstone. Free lunch. In the afternoon, drive to Bryce passing through Dixie National Forest. Dinner and overnight in Bryce.
Visit Bryce Canyon, one of the most beautiful parks in Utah. This site was discovered by the Mormons in the 19th century. The shapes and bright colors of the stone of the Pink Cliffs changes continously from sunrise to sunset. Proceed to Saint George, a city founded by the Mormons, to visit the reception center and the temple of the Mormons. Free lunch along the way. Stop in the first state park in Nevada: the Valley of Fire, a beautiful desert characterized by the presence of red sandstone formations. Many movies have been filmed here. Dinner and overnight in Las Vegas.
Departure to Pahrump and Shoshone, through the desert of Nevada. Enter California and descend towards the Death Valley, one of the hottest places on earth. The Death Valley is 80 meters below sea level. You will discover Furnace Creek and Stovepipe Sand Dunes. Free lunch and visit to the museum dedicated to the extraction and use of borax. Continue on to Bakersfield for dinner and overnight.
Travel to majestic Yosemite National Park. This is one of the most beautiful parks in California. Yosemite strikes for the freshness of its mountain landscapes, where coniferous forests and waterfalls dominated by the sinuous shapes of the white monoliths abound. You will explore Half Dome, Yosemite Valley, Yosemite Falls and Bridalveil Falls, particularly interesting during the spring, and also a pioneer village in the southern part of the park. Free lunch. You will then descend the mountain and depart westward through the lush farmland of California. Arrival in Modesto in the evening. Departure to San Francisco. Arrival and guided tour of San Francisco, one of the most photographed, filmed and described cities in the world, a sophisticated blend of history and modernity. The city was built on several hills spread over a magnificent bay, of which San Francisco is the crown jewel. You will visit the business district, Union Square, Chinatown and cross the Golden Gate Bridge to the town of Sausalito across the bay. Free lunch. Free afternoon. Departure to Monterey Peninsula, beautiful landscape of sand, rocks and cypresses. It's a place that attracts many Americans and European painters and poets. Visit the city, in particular the fishing harbor and the picturesque Cannery Row immortalized by John Steinbeck. Free lunch. Visit Carmel, along the scenic 17-Mile Drive. Continue to Santa Maria.
