Namibia - Useful information for your trip

Namibia is a country located in South Africa facing the Atlantic Ocean.

Under the geographical point of view, Namibia is characterized by uplands, the highest point is the Brandberg, home to some important archaeological sites, and by the presence of Namib Desert and the Kalahari desert. Weather conditions vary from region to region, from a desertic climate to a subtropical one. These conditions highly influence the local flora and fauna, which boast several endemical species safeguarded through the creation of national parks and private wildlife reserves.

The most important parks are Namib-Naukluft, whose landscapes show orange sandy hills, and Etosha, which hosts a large endorheic salt pan that during the rainy seasons becomes quite deep, while, during the dry season, it becomes a desert.

The population includes different ethnic groups belonging to the Bantu group, but also immigrants such as Boers, Brits and Germans. They conserved their traditions, this is why some Namibian towns boast a colonial architecture that reminds of the German villages of the 20th century.

The economy of the region is based on mining, thanks to the ground rich in diamonds, lead, tungsten, gold, tin, fluorspar, manganese, marble, copper and zinc. Also agriculture and breeding play a relevant role in the economy of the country. Moreover, over the last few years the touristic sector has strongly increased as well.

Visitors are attracted by the beautiful and suggestive landscapes, rich in charm; but also by the historical remains of its colonial past. They can be discovered through the architecture of the country. Namibia also provides wonderful and amazing beaches where to relax and practice every kind of water sport, such as Swakopmund and Walvis Bay.
