Marvellous Tsingy National Park in Bemaraha, declared Unesco World Heritage Site, covering an area of 152,000 hectares, is divided into Petit Tsingy, or "Little Tsingy" and Les Grands Tsingy, or "Great Tsingies" in the north.
The visit will allow you to observe the slow eroding work of rain water on limestone. The area, which has been inhabited since prehistory, still shows clear traces of its past even nowadays.
Here are some other highlights of the trip:
Arrival at Antananarivo International airport, airport formalities and transfer to the hotel. Overnight.
After breakfast, transfer to Antananarivo for the domestic flight to Morondava, one of the main cities in the west of Madagascar and main city of Menabe region, meaning "great red" in the Madascan language, a name which refers to the typical red color of the soil.
You'll be in the land of Sakalava, an ethnic group of African origins, with many African-like rituals and traditions. Arrival at Morondava airport and transfer to the hotel. Overnight.
After breakfast, drive to Sakalava inland, passing several villages, following the baobab trees, among ricefields and woods. Arrival in Bekopaka in the late afternoon: here you'll get an idea of what famous Tsingies are for the first time. Overnight.
After breakfast visit Bemaraha Tsingy National Park, declared Unesco World Heritage Site. The exploration of the Petits Tsingy will allow to get a close look of the slow erosion of rain water on limestone.
The area, inhabited since prehistory, shows clear evidence of its past in the grottoes and caves opening in the rocks. Box lunch. Overnight.
After breakfast continue visiting Grands Tsinghy, harder to reach but more spectacular. In both areas, the main attraction is the immense forest of karst pinnacles ("Tsingy" means "needle" in Madagascan).
Some of these pinnacles, whose shapes have been modelled by winds and water over the centuries, rise to the sky for hundreds of meters. In the same region lies Manambolo gorge, where you can admire waterfalls, several species of lemur, birds and numerous reptiles. Box lunch. Overnight.
Breakfast at the hotel and then travel back to Morondava. In the late afternoon you'll cross world-famous "Avenue of the Baobabs". Avenue du Baobab is one of the most photographed locations in Madagascar. It's a marvellous avenue, about 15 km long, north of Morondava and flanked by massive "Adansonia Grandidieri".
The best times to admire it are sundown and sunrise, when the colors of the trees change and their long shadows become more visible. Morondava, situated in the heart of Sakalava territory, is known for being home to the tombs of the ancient Menabe, famous for their erotic sculptures. Overnight.
