Iran - Useful information for your trip

Iran is a country located in the Asian continent; it is also known as Persia.

Its territory is very wide and includes different landscapes, a large upland, coastal regions and the region of Khuzestan. The upland boasts majestic mountains that divide one plain from the other. The vegetation is also very rich. The northernmost part of the country hosts lush and green forests; many of them are safeguarded in protected areas. The central and the southern part are covered by steppes, and, finally, in the eastern part lies Dasht-e Kavir, the largest desert in Iran.

As well as the geographic features, also the climate is really hetergeneous because of the largeness of the country. Indeed, it shows different climate situations, among which steppe climate, arid climate and temperate climate. But, the whole country is subject to a strong change of temperature from summer to winter. In fact, the temperature can variy from +35° C to -10° C.

Iran is the home of one of the oldest civilities of the world, this is why it is possible to find several and important historical and cultural remains within its territory. The iranian architecture follows the phases and the development of its population. The pre-Iranian ages are characterized by the presence of ziggurats: Choga Zanbil is one of the most relevant. The most significant element of the modern Iranian architecture is the mosque. Unmissable is the visit to Nasir-al-Mulk Mosque, popular for its stained glass windows, which create a lively and suggestive kaleidoscope of colours inside.

Its towns are unique and matchless. The city of Isfahan hosts a traditional bazar developing along its suggestive alleys, while its boulevard Chahar-Bagh is well-known thanks to its many shops, hip boutiques and cinemas.

Iran also provides amazing places where to relax and enjoy the best of the natural environment, such as the National Parks or the wonderful beaches lapped by the Caspian Sea or the waters od the Persian Gulf or Gulf of Oman.
