Costa Rica is a country in Central America with San Josè as capital city.
Costa Rica, a very small country in Central America whose capital city is San Josè, faces the Pacific ocean to the south and to the west and the Caribbean sea to the east. Its numerous bays and coasts with their white sand beaches helped the proliferation of many touristic structures, which did not alter the beauty of the landscape anyway.
The climate in the country is typically tropical, except for Meseta, where it becomes more temperate. The land is mainly covered by tropical rainforest, with an immense variety of orchids.There are 864 species of birds and 250 types of mammals, of which about a half is made up of bats. Four species of monkeys are present in the country.
As for the economic system, Costa Rica once relied almost exclusively on agriculture and the sale of its products, while nowadays economy is mainly based on the export of non-traditional products,such as electronic devices, and tourism. The country is still the second largest producer of bananas and pineapples and it is famous all over the world for its excellent coffee. Nevertheless, 18% of the population lives below the poverty line.
