You will leave the village in the morning and start your trip by driving 2 hours by car, following the beautiful Ñuble river and entering the mountain range towards the border with Argentina. Then you'll follow the El Sauce river until you get to Pichirincón.
This will be the beginning of a great adventure, as you start riding following the footsteps of the “arrieros” (local shepherds) between the colorful and arid Andes Mountains, enjoying the wild and majestic scenery, beautiful views on crystal clear rivers, discovering the native flora and looking at the condors in the sky. (Season: from December 1st to April 30. The route might be subject to changes if needed, for example if the path is not negotiable. Minimum age: 15).
The highlights of your tour include:
Arrival in San Fabiàn de Alico and overnight (different kinds of accommodation available depending on your budget). The following day, after breakfast, you will leave San Fabián de Alico at 9 am in a private vehicle to get to Pichirincon two hours later, the starting point of the trip, where your horses and mules are waiting for you.
From there you will ride two hours to get the shepherd’s hut of Las Tragedias, your first camp place, and to get to know your horse.
You'll set off in the early in the morning for a good horse riding day (6 hours), with a nice mid-day break in the Gonzales hot springs where you'll stop for lunch. You will then arrive at the camp in the evening at the “veranada” (summer mountain pastures) of Moralito, and share a “maté” and a nice dinner around the fire.
You will arrive early at Dial Lake after a short ride of about one hour and a half. There you will have the whole day for enjoying the majestic scenery, fishing, and swimming (in wind protected sites only). In the afternoon you will also enjoy a delicious “asado” (barbecue).
You will arrive for lunch at the beautiful “veranada” (summer mountain pastures) located in the upper valley of Cisternas, and you'll go for a walk in the evening to see an amazing labyrinth of rocks, a unique geological formation.
Today you will leave your campsite early to ride to the pass that will offer you a spectacular view of Longavi and Chillán volcanoes. For several hours you will descend the side of the mountain into La Zorra valley, where you can enjoy hot spring waters by night under the starry sky.
You now have a nice 6 hours ride along the beautiful La Zorra River before reaching Pichirincon where you will leave the horses and have a last bath in the river. You will be back to San Fabián in the evening. Overnight in the town and end of tour the following day.
