Japan - Useful information for your trip

Japan is an archipelago that forms an island country belonging to the Asian continent. It is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and hosts several islands, among which the largest are Honshū, Hokkaidō, Kyūshū e Shikoku.

Most of the territory is characterized by the presence of forests and steep mountains which make it unsuitable for agriculture, industries and residences. Moreover, Japan's islands are located in a volcanic zone and own about 108 active vulcanoes. Not only do they cause eruptions, but they also influence earth movements that sometimes originate earthquakes and tsunamis.

The climate is temperate with variations from the islands of the North and of the South. Indeed, these latter are mainly characterized by a subtropical climate, with warm winters and scorching summers.

Japan boasts nine forestal eco-regions where it is possible to admire the differente climates and geographies of the islands and note in which way they influence the biodiversity. Many are the different landscape situations that it is possible to observe, from the high mountains to the humid subtropical forests, from the temperate forests  to the boreal forest in the north. These habitats provide a home for a large number of wild animals.

Of course, Japan also has big cosmopolitan cities, such as the capital Tokyo. It offers many attractions of artistic and cultural interest. During the year, here several social events take place, such as festival and fashion shows. The most important museums are Tokyo National Museum, where it is possible to admire the largest collection of Japanese art; the National Museum of Western Art and the National Museum of the Modern Art. Also the skyline of the city is something exceptional and very suggestive. It has several high skyscrapers close to each other.

Finally, for those who do not want to give up on relaxing moments, Japan also offers little corners of paradise. They are characterized by refined white beaches lapped by a transparent crystal-clear sea. Moreover, thanks to the proximity to the coral reef, it is possible to enjoy the view of several colourful tropical fishes. The most beautiful islands are located in the zone of Okinawa, Tokashiki Island, Zamami Island and Aka Island.
