On this suggested itinerary, driving mainly through the back roads, you will have the chance to experience the natural and cultural diversity of Santa Catarina. Here are some highlights of the suggested itinerary, allowing you to experience the real Santa Catarina in a nutshell:
Arrival at Florianopolis airport. You will be met by the guide who will help you with the car rental formalities and give you a road map and information about your itinerary. Pick-up car. Overnight at a local guesthouse.
Florianópolis, the capital city of Santa Catarina, has a lot to offer, from colonial fishing villages to some of the most charming beaches of the Catarinense coast. It's also perfect for outdoors activities such as rafting, trekking and all kinds of water sports.
Free day to explore the island of Santa Catarina and its 42 beaches and lagoons. Overnight at guesthouse by the beach.
South Brazil, especially the northern area of Santa Catarina State, received a large influx of German immigrants in the middle of the 19th century. In the region known as the European Valley, a number of little villages still retain the influence of its Germanic origins in the architecture, the local dialect and cuisine.
Pomerode is a small village which preserves its immigrant culture on hundreds of timber-framed houses and neat gardens. You can either drive or cycle around the “enxaimel route” (bikes are available for rent from the Tourist Office) in the rural side of the town, where you can see authentic early 20th century “fachwerk”, the typical German timber-framed houses in the middle of neat tropical gardens.
Back in town you can also sample the local beer and food at the local micro- brewery Schornstein.
A few hours Inland from the coast you will be in the incredibly beautiful Serra Geral mountain range. Its peaks reach up to 1800 m above sea level: this is the coldest part of Brazil.
You can explore its lush canyons, pristine mountain rivers, waterfalls, and araucaria forests by foot and experience the culture of the highland gauchos.
Free day for optional activities around your mountain lodge.
Praia do Rosa is frequently chosen as one of the most beautiful beaches in Brazil. It is the perfect place to relax in the quiet surroundings with beautiful views. Good coastal walks are also available in the vicinity of the guesthouse. The region is also famous for surfing and, from July to November, it is an ideal base for whale watching.
You will reach Praia do Rosa after a 3.30-hour drive through the scenic Corvo Branco mountain road.
Free days to relax or for local activities.
Return the car to Florianopolis airport.
