Botswana is a wide continental country located in Southern Africa.

Its territory is mainly characterized by a tableland and by the presence of the Kalahari Desert; it owns only two river basins: Okavango Delta and Limpopo River Basin, thorugh which it is possible to reach the sea. Botswana boasts a sub-desertic climate, the precipitations are poor and irregular, while there is a high temperature range.

Although its landscapes are not so various and heterogeneous, they include many interesting animal and plant species. This is why over the few last years the government has worked in order to preserve and safeguard wildlfe, therefore several national parks and protected areas have been estabilished. In these areas it is possible to admire and discover the natural beauties and the faunistic variety.

The Tswana are the largest ethnic group in Botswana, a population coming from a Bantu speaking tribe, who colonized the region during the 17th century. But at the end of the 19th century, they were colonized by the British. Unlike other countries, whites and blackwas lived together peacefully, so much so that the national flag has a black row and a white one close to the light blue of the water. The two rows underline the positive relationship between the two ethnic groups. In 1966 Botswana became independent and part of Commonwealth.

Many local traditions come from the mix of the black bantu customs and the Anglosaxon ones. They can be found literature, art, architecture and in the culinary field.

The economy of the country is based on the mining process, breeding and tourism. Thanks to the richness of the ground, in Botswana it is possible to quarry gold, uranium, copper, oil, but especially diamonds, which represent the main resources of the land.

Safaris are famous and popular in Botswana, but visitors will be astonished also by the amazing colonial villages, by the multifarious cultural heritage of the modern cities such as Gaborone and Francistown and by the hospitality of its inhabitants.
