Hundested Harbour - Skansen - Frederiksværk
    Day 1

Today you'll discover the Hundested Harbour that hosts several amazing cultural activities and warm restaurants. Hundested is a city with an important historical background, since it was a place where kings and their entourages went seal hunting on “Hunderevet” (the seal reef) outside the harbour, which gave its name to the town. Nowadays it is not very common to spot seals, but fishing is still very important to the town and there are many possibilities to taste local fish specialities. Furthermore, Sand Sculpture Festival takes place close to the harbour and is well worth visiting. Do not forget to visit Skansen, a line of defence used to control the entrance to Isefjorden, where it is possible to observe four ancient cannons. These latter are fired on particular occasions, for instance on Constitution Day.

Lunch at Halsnæs Bryghus brewery. It provides a wide choice of beers and courses. Afterwards, you'll visit Frederiksværk, a place that played an important role in the history of the kings’ wars. The channel, which leads excess water from Lake Arresø out into Roskilde Fjord, originally supplied hydro power. Later, the hydro power was used to operate the gunpowder mill, which you can still visit. Gjethuset is another unmissable place in Frederiksværk. This building was a cannon foundry, now it is a cultural centre and home of art exhibitions, concerts and other peaceful events. Anyway, the concert hall shows pictures of the cannon foundry, dating back to more than 250 years ago.

In the evening, you'll go back to Hundested, where you'll enjoy your delicious dinner at Restaurant Nemo at the harbour and overnight at Hundested Kro og Hotel.

Knud Rasmussen’s House - Dyssekilde Eco Village - Rudolph Tegners Museum
    Day 2

Today, you’ll meet several Danes with great vision. First of all, you'll move to Knud Rasmussen’s House, just north of Hundested. The house dates back to the 1917 and is situated right on the edge of a cliff. It was built according to the English cottage-style. Rasmussen is known to be the Denmark’s great polar explorer. He spent many years of his life exploring Greenland, its landscape, nature, its tales and legends. Knud Rasmussen wrote his books about his experiences, and he planned his next expeditions when he was at his house in Hundested. The house is rich in charming details and art works from the Greenland expeditions. It is a place for contemplation, even for a fidgety man with an immense desire for the great outdoors.

Then, you'll be transferred to Dyssekilde Eco Village. It is one of the oldest eco communities in Denmark and is located in the town of Torup. Around 20 years ago, it was just a ploughed field, now it is a residential area characterized by different houses, but people take care about CO2 emissions, waste water, waste sorting and community. The houses are private homes, but you are welcome to walk around the town. If you’re lucky, you can join a guided tour. (There are guided tours every two weeks or so).

After lunch at Munkeruphus Museum, you'll go on along the Danish Riviera visiting Dronningmølle mill, where there is a very particular museum. It was built by Rudolph Tegner, a sculptor, and presents an octagonal map, high ceilings in order to host enormous sculptures. Visit the museum and go for a walk in the sculpture park, where the sculptures magically blend with the nature.

Overnight at the comfortable Hornbæk hus, built more than 100 years ago, renovated with great respect for the many beautiful details and furnished in Gustavian manor style.

    Kronborg Castle
    Day 3

Your goal today is to reach Kronborg Castle, your end station. Anyway, there are many interesting spots to be visited en route.

The tour starts visiting Esrum Abbey and Møllegård. It is an old Cistercian monastery, which, after restoration works, was opened to the public in 1997. An evening meal is served at Esrum Abbey throughout the month of June, some specialities of the abbey are mustard and beer. It is also possible to buy them in the abbey shop, which sells also other goods, such as bread, salt and schnapps. In addition, the herbs cultivated in the abbey's gardens are often used in the products.

Then, you'll discover the suggestive ruins of Gurre Castle. If you close your eyes and use your imagination, you can almost feel King Valdemar’s game hunt on horseback. Do not miss a visit to the nearby Ørholt Gods estate, where you’ll find Peter Beier Chokolade. Beier produces chocolates which are sold in his own stores, all over Denmark and Sweden. The cocoa comes from his own plantation in the Caribbean, but many of the other ingredients are grown locally around the estate respecting nature. Peter Beier’s company makes superior quality chocolate with a clear local touch. Here you can also taste the delicious and excellent chocolate.

Afterwards, you'll move to Ålsgårde, one of Denmark’s oldest wineries, and then to Hammermøllen mill in Hellebæk. Here, from the beginning of the 18th century to the late 19th century, tens of thousands of rifles and pistols were produced for the Danish army, using power from the big watermill you can still see today. Enjoy a break at Hammermølle Café sitting under the shady trees and if you are feeling peckish you can taste Danish open sandwiches, lovely salads, coffee and cake.

You'll arrive at your last destination: Kronborg Castle, listed as Unesco World Heritage Site. Here, the cannons on the fortifications point out over Øresund Sound, which was the royal goldmine for as long as it was possible to maintain the Øresund Toll.

Dinner at restaurant Madglad, to experience one of the best cuisines of the country, or try Spiseriet Helsingør which invites you into its intimate setting, or if Italian cuisine is more your thing, La Dolce Vita is a really good choice. Tonight you can stay at Helsingør B&B, enjoying the most scenic location close to the Øresund coast, with Kronborg as its visible neighbour and the Swedish coastline opposite.
